Nestled beneath the Mountains of Mourne, The Burrendale Hotel, Country Club & Spa is undeniably one of Northern Ireland’s leading 4 star luxury Hotel and Spa. With its 68 bedrooms, function rooms, Spa, Country Club with swimming pool; this hotel has a high heat and water demand.
The hotel required the installation and maintenance of a highly efficient and fully automated biomass heating system which could be integrated with its current heating system. It would need to run on wood pellets and supply the hotel’s total heating and hot water needs.
The boilers and internal fuel store are located in a plant room designed to blend into the hotel and its surroundings. The installation consisted of four Herz Firematic 99 kW wood pellet boilers complete with four 3,000 litre buffer tanks.
The installation is now accredited for Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) payments for the next 20 years, linked to inflation. The 20 years of RHI payments and the fuel cost savings make the project both sustainable and financially viable. Not only does this ensure that the hotel has substantial fuel cost reductions but also reduces CO2 emissions while maintaining the comfort of its guests.
